Weight lifting’s not what it used to be.

I’ve been back at the gym for the last two months and I’ve noticed two things changes since 2003:

  1. The weights have gotten smarter.
Plates that are ten pounds or higher now have handles built into them. Dumbbells are cylindrical octagons rather than cylindrical circles so they don’t roll away. And there is a wider selection of weights; 17.5 lb, 22.5lb etc.
  2. The people have gotten dumber.
Even though the racks are clearly labeled I have yet to find a dumbbell or barbell in the proper place. I mean, this is not Nam. This is a weight room. There are rules. Am I wrong?

HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE CRAZY? AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RACK LABELS ANYMORE?

“Lashes”, you say…

…So to sum up, somewhere, sometime next summer I will get married. At least I know the someone, which in many ways is the most important detail.

From: Tone Milazzo

I’ll keep that summer wide open. No plans what so ever.

From: Evan Smith

We are actually considering leasing the Isle of Man from mid-June through August and holding a ten week druidic ceremony, complete with 17 celebratory orgies and climactic “Night of a Thousand Lashes”. If that’s unavailable we’ll probably just go with a barbeque and slip-and-slide in my Mom’s backyard.

I Saw Part Three Last Night

Good points:

  1. The fight scenes were satisfying and frequent.
  2. The CG Effects were very, very good. Especially the settings. See it in a theater with a digital projector.
  3. If you like severing, there’s a whole lotta severin’ goin’ on in this picture.
  4. Social commentary, making this the deepest of the Star wars films.
  5. Ewen McGregger.

Bad points:

  1. The audience can’t feel the tragedy of a good man gone bad if they never really liked the character to begin with. Annikin has gone from boring and stiff (part one) to an entitled brat (part two). So his fall from grace is really just the story of one jerk becoming a bigger jerk.
  2. Awkward, cheesy dialog, but it wouldn’t be Star Wars without it.
  3. Jar-Jar was on the screen briefly and metaclorians were mentioned.

I could almost give the movie credit for having the bad guys win for a change, but we all know that was just to set up the sequel.
No reason not to see it.

Meme this.

I don’t do memes or quizzes because they feel like blog-padding.
But if I created a meme of my own, well that’s perfectly valid:

(At this point I cross my fingers and hope no one has created this meme before.)

Create a euphemism for masturbation based on whatever books you are currently reading:

How about the rest of you? Are you reading anything or are you too busy masturbating?

The Cash Comes Rollin’ In

Bryce Harrington, of the Open Clip Art Library sent me a dollar.
The OCAL is where I picked up the original Hoppers image.

Apparently my room is a radio-free zone.

One of my favorite things in the world is to wake up to NPR News, a simple pleasure which will be denied to me while I’m living in Linda Vista. Free Jazz 88 broadcasts from Meas Community College across the street, and their tower sends a column of jazz through my room, bleeding all over the high 80′s, including KPBS 89.5.

Instead of the news of the day I get noodling and static. And since San Diego radio is an even lower grade of shit than the rest of the country endures it looks like I have only one option.

A Special Kind of Transcendence

Bus-stop’s are a nexus for both mass transit and paradigms. A place where one can catch a ride home, or get caught in superfluous, theological debates.

“Why are you here, miss?”

“For the twenty three,” she responded automatically.

“No, girl, why are you heeeeeere…?” The untidy, middle-aged man had emphasized that by tracing a circle in the air.

“I’m going to school at the-”

“Don’t bother!” he interrupted. “There is a better way! With total faith in Jesus you can have anything you want!”

“And… what do you want from Jesus?”

“I want,” he smiled proudly, “to become a dragon.”

Someone’s posting like mad at so then…org

Some guy calling himself “KillerWabbit” has contributed 15 times to so then…org in the last week.
I was going to shut so…then down last month due to lack of interest and it only survived because I forgot to disable the automatic name registration.
Good to know that someone’s using it. I should contribute back at him soon.
