postsecret

I like postsecret but I could never contribute.
This is the best I could come up with and it’s only half true.

I donated $365 to KCRW this morning.
On the form you can leave a message to be read on the air.
My message: “No Commercials. No Mercy.”

I’m pretty sure they won’t be broadcasting that.

I’m going to close down clusterstruck I haven’t updated for over six months and by blog standards that’s a generation. ANd I have to delete 4-6 comment spam a day, it’s just an irritant.
I’m going to copy my entries back to my LJ.
Anyone who contributed a 100 Word Story or Plug who wants to keep it should make with the cut-n-paste.

They got me.

pointed out that the site I linked to in yesterday’s post is satire. Usually, I expect satire to be, I don’t know, funny and the comedy didn’t come through on LoveGodsWay or their YouTube page.
But I dug around and found the original video which makes it clear.
I’m an easy mark when it comes to Bible bashing, but I was wrong in this case.

Christian rock still sucks.

Oh this is fantastic…

Another reason social conservatives need to keep their hands off our culture, their taste in music sucks: safe bands vs. gay bands

I’m going to check out some of the “gay bands” that I haven’t heard of because that’s obviously the list worth listening to.

Edit: Wait. Nickelback is on the gay list. I guess gay != good after all.

Time travel on the cheap

He’s how you do it:

  1. Work from home.
  2. Stop paying attention to dates, both today’s date and the dates of upcoming events.
  3. Assume every upcoming event is happening next week.
  4. Enjoy the experience of being jettisoned weeks into the past every time you show up for something.

Amy’s sideshow is not this Sunday and the Dark Tower Midnight Release Party was not tonight.
Got it, brain?
You think so?
We’ll see…

It’s the Obama!

Supporters describe Obama’s broad appeal as a cultural Rorschach test, an ink spot on which his fans can project their personal histories and aspirations.

I caught myself doing this. As with most politicians you really had to dig around to get an idea what he stands for (and even then, who knows?) I don’t agree with him on immigration, crime, and he’s soft on environmental issues. And I’d like to know where he stands on reinforcing the separation of church and state.
But I’m with him on abortion, education, taxes, wages, ethics reform and the war.
Mostly, I just miss having a president that can form complete sentences.
And I might volunteer to work in his San Diego office just to wear this.

“Friends”

I updated my Top x on mySpace, not because mySpace matters to me, but because it matters to so many others.
[Aside #1 Those of you who use mySpace comments like they were email: Stop it!].
Now everyone who included me in their Top {4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24} is in my Top x, where x=20. As long as I don’t make more than four more close personal connections I won’t have to worry about snubbing anyone.
[Aside #2 the best line on anyone's profile is by Jessie who lists as her interests as: Rainbows and Unicorns, and Rainbow-colored unicorns and unicorn-shaped rainbows. Nothing else interests me. Nothing.]
I hate this softening of the word “friend”. Am I friends with , or the ? No. I’m just friending them to keep track of what they’re working on and I pipe all feeds through my Friends Page.
I wish there was an option to “fan” someone instead, so intentions were clear all around. Even if there was that’s not always right. I’ve had limited interactions with , , and . Bill’s friended me years ago and I checked his LJ often enough that I figured that I figured I’d reciprocate. Melissa friended me since I was reading her blog and I message board and Comic Con know Dirk and Spike but I feel my connection with all these people is somewhere between friend and fan.
As I write this it occurs to me that the real issue is how slowly I develop confidence in my associations with people. I have to have a lot of face-to-face time with a person before I can call them a friend. I know that Christopher and Cramer are my friends even if I rarely see them in person. , and I are practically conjoined twins (imagine how hideous that would be).

If I get published maybe I can consider myself part of the middle class of fame like Spike is. Then I can freely friend everyone who asks on mySpace because “It’s just for promotion anyway”, and ignore anyone I don’t really know on LJ because “I’m just to busy”.

Or maybe I’m over thinking this. I mean, it’s just a blog.

Unfortunately, in Vegas it’s illegal to shoot a man just to watch him die.

Las Vegas! Come for the Casinos! Stay for the library!
Late fees go straight to the mob.

   Vegas went like this:
   Lifting and shivering.
   Sleep and swapmeet.
   Buffet and bundling up.
   One show and almost snow.
Brought my camera and left it in the apartment every time.
   Fuck it was cold!

It dropped to 22° on the mountains on the way up but I don’t think it was ever warmer than 45° the whole weekend. So when we went out we tried to spend as much time in the casinos as possible.
I finally got to experience Old Vegas, I was expecting run down facilities and pealing paint but they were packed and seemed to be doing just fine, in fact the best meal of the trip was at the Main Street Station buffet.
The $31 I won on the Star Wars slot machine covered most of my expenses, that is until I bought us some tickets to Zumanity, that’s the naughty Circe de Soleil. Zumanity is a full cabaret with comedians, contortionists, singers, dancers, a midget and a transvestite MC. Pricey, but worth it.
The non-Vegas Vegas stuff we did was a giant indoor swapmeet called “It’s Fantastic!” and Art Bar with was a part of Vegas’ underground art scene, which feels more organic than North Park’s art scene.
Overall, I had a real good time. After my first trip the Vegas two years ago I left unimpressed but now I can definitely see myself coming back. What made the difference? This time I had money.
