This is across the street from Clair de Lune’s, a successful, independent coffee shop in North Park.
The Kensington Coffee Company, Gaylord’s in Oakland, that non-profit coffee house in Hillcrest they destroyed in the nineties, and on and on…
The goal; paint the whole world beige. Not a world I’d want to live in.
The banner is in reference to the red paint someone had splashed all over the store front. Well intentioned, but it didn’t cost Starbucks a dime.
How does one run a corporate franchise out of the neighborhood?
[Edit: Oh, and their coffee sucks ass!]
Oh fuck, I did see that and I was hoping people would either start a petition or resort to vandalism.
I’m pretty sure OB has laws against big companies coming in and ruining the place.
Perhaps I letter writing compaign to the local government?
OB is mostly local shops but even their fight didn’t do much to get rid of the Starbuck’s that went up, it’s still there. The locals don’t go there but the tourists do. ;/ It’s still nice seeing the Anti-Starbucks signs here and there in people’s windows though. =)
And yeah Tone, I was at Claire’s a couple weeks ago and we were talking about the Starbucks going up there. Sucks. =*(
Reverend Billy’s Church of Buy Nothing has a number of street theater pieces that are specifically designed to confuse and befuddle Starbucks franchisees.
