It seemed like a good idea. Electrical work can’t be outsourced. And it had to require more thinking than the other construction trades, right?
Well. Not really. After seven weeks of training I found myself on the job, pulling cable and carrying ladders, stuff I could have learned on day one. The interesting stuff, electronics, was all done by the venders who had nothing to do with the IBEW.

It was dull and lonely work, which caused me to space out. And spacing out with power tools is a bad idea. On my last two days I installed 50 temperature gauges in air conditioning ducts. Halfway though the first day I was ready to turn the drill on my temple to end it.

So back to the software business, hopefully.
